Faux freckles are everywhere, and for good reason: they make a makeup look feel fresh, youthful and relaxed. The trick is making them look natural instead of drawn on.
How to do it
- Start with your usual base. Light coverage works best, so freckles can show through.
- Choose your shade. Go one or two shades deeper than your skin tone. Soft browns look more natural than black or dark brown.
- Dot lightly. Tap the pen across the bridge of your nose and over the tops of your cheeks.
- Vary the pressure. Some dots darker, some lighter, some tiny. Real freckles are never perfect.
- Don't overthink the placement. Scatter them in uneven clusters.
- Soften. If any dot looks too strong, tap gently with a fingertip to blur the edges.
Common mistakes
- Dots in a straight line or evenly spaced.
- Too many in one spot.
- A shade that's too dark for your skin tone.
